WE ARE RIDERS TOO
Mitchell Cycles was founded by Dave Mitchell in 1953, with the original store located on Liardet street.
The store has seen several changes in ownership and location before settling into its current location in 2010. After 19 years of dedicated ownership, Blair and Robyn Cox handed over the reins to Matty and Kylee in 2025, continuing the legacy and shaping the next chapter of Mitchell Cycles into the future.
The staff here are all riders, so the support doesn’t stop at the store – we will see you on the road or out on the trail! We aim to encourage people to take up cycling as a lifestyle choice.
Dave, the founder, was an avid racing cyclist. While the store was family focused, he also catered for the more competitive riders as well.
These principles still shape the way the store operates today.
MEET THE TEAM
MATTY KING
With over 30 years in the cycling industry, Matty's journey has taken him to the race track, working in Whistler, trail building in Chile & Australia and becoming a highly skilled bike mechanic
He rides to work everyday, continues to compete in bike races, and is passionate about gravel grinding and bike packing- always chasing new adventures on two wheels
KYLEE KING
Kylee succumbed to biking upon meeting Matty and receiving a bike one Christmas 15 years ago, starting out as a leisure rider, trialing mountain biking when the kids were young.
5 years ago she decided to start trying events and in turn bike packing.
Kylee is most at home having a yarn on a social ride, enjoying the scenery and grabbing a coffee or cider along the way.
GLEN PHILLIMORE
Except for a misguided 14 years in Auckland, Glen has lived in New Plymouth all of his life.
He was an avid Junior Road Cyclist until the pull of the forest, gravel and Mountainbiking took over.
Glen has worked in retail since 1986 and has been part of the cycling industry for over 25 years. These days he commutes to the store most days and rides for leisure with his wife and 2 adult children on an E-MTB.
MATT GOODSELL
Matt has been deeply involved in the cycling industry for over 30 years, from racing to honing his craft as a skilled bike mechanic.
A dedicated cyclist, he commutes to work daily and continues to compete in mountain bike races, keeping his passion for the sport alive.
CALLUM MOFFITT
Callum has been riding since he could walk, and racing competitively in both downhill and enduro for the past 7 years. He joined the team at Mitchell Cycles as a full-time mechanic at the end of 2022.
